About The Canine Brain

What we do

We maintain a governed evidence collection on the canine brain: how it develops, learns, communicates, feels, sleeps and ages, and what helps or harms it. Each publication is read in full, checked against the original source and independently audited before it informs anything we publish.

That collection supports our work: The Pack, a weekly research subscription open to anyone; the CBep certification for people who work with dogs; Our Product Ratings, which judge products against their own claims; and the Annual State of Research.

Who it is for

Trainers, behaviour professionals and others who want their practice grounded in what the science actually shows. Owners and companies who want an honest view of the evidence behind a product. And owners who want accurate, readable information.

How we treat evidence

Publications are not the same as independent evidence. Several papers can report on the same dogs, so we track where studies share animals or data rather than counting papers as replications.

We keep null, mixed and contradictory findings in view. We distinguish direct canine evidence from human or comparative research, which we label as context. And when the evidence is uncertain, we say so.

Why independence matters

Our conclusions do not depend on who is paying. A company that commissions a product rating pays for the assessment, not the outcome, and every rating is published. We screen each commission for conflicts of interest and disclose, manage or decline them. Podcast guests and partners do not review or endorse our conclusions by appearing.
